Chief Thomas J. Byrne

Chief Thomas J. Byrne joined the Ridley Park Police Department in 1987 as a part-time patrolman, prior to his service to the Borough of Ridley Park, Chief Byrne was a patrolman in the Borough of Parkside. He was promoted to Full-Time in 1988, and promoted to Chief on June 11th, 2002. Chief Byrne, as a Patrolman, was instrumental in starting the Borough's Youth Aid Panel, which helps first time juvenile offenders. The Chief served as the Youth Aid Panel Liaison for a number of years. Chief Byrne was also the departments Domestic Violence Expert, teaching our department as well as numerous other county Police Departments the importance of how to handle Domestic Violence cases. Chief Byrne has obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Widener University, and a Master's Degree from St. Joseph's University. He is also a Accident Reconstructionist, with over 240 hours of training from the University of North Florida and Northwestern University. Tom also works as a Professor at Delaware County Community College, and is also an Adjunct Professor at Widener University. Tom is a member of the Delaware County Police Chief's Association, Southeastern Pennsylvania Police Chief's Association, Pennsylvania Police Chief Association, as well as Lodge #27 of the Fraternal Order of Police. Chief Byrne is Married and has 3 sons, 2 of which was are in Law Enforcement. During Chief Byrne's tenure, the department has seen numerous changes. One of the biggest change is the construction of a new Police Station, which is set to open in October of 2007.
